Can beginners participate?

Yes, of course, you can participate. At Irinkai, we ensure that beginners can start with peace of mind,
We will carefully teach you basic posture, movements, and how to walk. It's fine even if you're not good at exercise.

It's okay even if you're not confident in your athletic abilities.

It's okay. Iaijutsu is a martial art that values “calmness” and “posture” more than strength or speed.
It's relatively easy on the body and can be done regardless of age.

Are there any female participants?

Yes, the master of Ikkai is a woman, so many women participate.
The Iirin-kai values beautiful deportment, embodying the principle of "standing with flexibility and dignity."
We've also received feedback from women saying, “It's easy to continue” and “It's attractive as a culture.”

What should I wear?

For trial sessions, comfortable clothing is fine (like a t-shirt or sweatpants).
We will rent out hakama on the day.
If you proceed to formal training, we will provide information on training attire (uniform and hakama).

Are props (like practice swords) necessary?

We will lend you the equipment for the trial, so you don't need to prepare anything. After joining, the necessary equipment will depend on your budget and body type.
The instructor will guide you as well.

How many minutes does the experience last? What does it involve?

The experience lasts approximately 60 minutes. We will proceed slowly and carefully with posture, etiquette, sword handling, and basic movements.
At the end, you may be asked to attempt a simple type.

Is there an age limit?

People ranging from their teens to their 70s are participating.
Iaidō can be practiced without strain at any age because it involves few strenuous movements.

Isn't it dangerous? Won't you get hurt?

A safe practice sword will be used during the experience.
Beginners can rest assured that we will carefully teach them how to handle a sword. An instructor will always provide support during practice.

Is it possible to visit for a tour only?

Yes, we welcome visitors for observation. You can actually see the atmosphere of practice and the beauty of the movements.

Can I take pictures?

It depends on the rehearsal content and the participants' situation. There will be times when filming is possible.
Please ask the instructor on the day.

How many sessions does it take to improve?

While individual results may vary, many people find that continuing to practice 2-4 times a month leads to noticeable improvements in their gracefulness, concentration, and posture.

Can I join for the purpose of refreshing?

Of course. Iai-do is also a time to cultivate “strength in stillness.”
Many people participate to relieve stress and improve concentration.

Can people from overseas participate?

Yes, you can easily participate as a cultural experience. We also have instructors who can provide explanations in English.

Can I try it multiple times before joining?

A trial is generally for one time only, but we can discuss it depending on your circumstances. First, please experience the atmosphere of our training.

When is the experience held?

You can experience about one hour of our practice sessions, which are held a few times a month. Please inquire about the monthly practice schedule.
