It's a traditional Iai-do school.
The oldest school of Tamiya-ryu iaijutsu is the "Kishu Tamiya-ryu," founded by Tamiya Heihyoue Shigemasa, a direct disciple of Hayashizaki Jinsuke.
This was passed down during the Tenshō era of the Sengoku period, around 400 years ago, and is one of the oldest existing schools of Iaijutsu.
Tamiya-ryu iaijutsu, praised as "Tamiya of Beauty" and "Tamiya of Status" for its elegance, developed as a martial art of the Kishu domain.
The Tamiya-ryu school was founded approximately 400 years ago by Tamiya Heibei Narimasa, a direct disciple of Hayashizaki Jinusuke Shigenobu, who is considered the founder of iaido. The school was employed as a commissioned martial art by Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Warring States period.
The first Tamia Nagakatsu, who served Lord Terumasa Ikeda, achieved remarkable military exploits in the Winter Campaign of Osaka, earning praise from Lord Ieyasu Tokugawa. Later, he became a vassal of Lord Yorinobu Tokugawa, the lord of the Kishu domain, one of the Gosanke.
The third generation Tamiya Nagataka, at the request of the third Shogun Iemitsu Tokugawa, presented the Tamiya-ryu to him for inspection in Keian 4 (1651). He received a reward and made the name "Tamiya-ryu" known throughout the country.
The Tamiya-ryu consists of 11 techniques in the Omote (basic forms) and 14 techniques in the Tora Ran (advanced Iai).

The characteristics of our business are greatness and precision in detail, and if I were to add further, that we must not forget "position" and "beauty."
The flow has been known since the Edo period as "Tamiya of Rank" and "Tamiya of Beauty," so these key points are of utmost importance.
