Tamiya-ryu Iaido Principles and Standards

"The transmission of our school fundamentally aims at drawing the sword within a few minutes by aligning one's inner will correctly and outward bearing straightly, following the harmony of one's ki, with the principles of nature." (From the Tamiya Shinden Ogi Shu)

According to Tamiya-ryu, the first principle of Iaido training is to achieve a natural posture while regulating one's mind and spirit, aligning the body correctly and straight with **ki** (energy), and drawing the sword in an instant.

In martial arts, "kikijunjo" refers to the universal principles and norms that serve as standards for training and competition in martial arts.
This refers to the fundamental rules and standards that govern martial arts as a whole, encompassing not only technical aspects but also mental aspects and etiquette.

Rule
It refers to a standard for things and a tool for defining form, like a compass or ruler.
Purity
It refers to tools for measuring things correctly, like spirit levels and plumb bobs. In martial arts, it becomes the standard for the accuracy of techniques, fairness in matches, and etiquette.

In martial arts, the principles and standards encompass not only technical criteria but also encompass the entire discipline, including mental training, etiquette, and the way of life of a martial artist.
Specific example:
Technical aspects: Standards for acquiring correct posture, basic movements, kata, and techniques.
Mental aspects: Politeness, self-control, indomitable spirit, respect for others.
Manners: Greetings,bowing,speech, deportment
In learning martial arts, understanding and embodying the principles and standards is essential for the growth of a martial artist.
